When making the sides, it's best to clamp the two sides together and then drill them. That way everything is the same, and you get done in almost half the time. There are 6 pieces there sandwhiched together. On the edges of the MDF is spakle to fill in the pores. That'll make it look a little nicer once it gets painted.
Drilling holes for the drum discs. ShopNotes suggested a fly-cutter, a drill centering jig and then making the center hole bigger after you cut the circle. That seems a little retarded so I just made a circle cutting jig that had the right size shaft in the first place so I didn't have to figure out how to keep everything centered.
