Watching paint dry. I started working with the base too soon after painting it. This time I'll wait a while before installing the dusthood plexiglass.

It's hard to convey just how flat a board is with a picture. This one is pretty flat. It's within .005" on each side near the edge. You cannot feel the seams of the glue-up with your fingers, you have to look real hard to see them. I'm happy. Time to build a dust hood now that I know it's going to work correctly.

Trued up drum and topped it off with a coat of sanding sealer. I was able to get the drum within 1/64 of itself end to end and flat to the conveyor. Good enough for me.

I did get a spare motor just for the drum sander. But it was all ready to go sitting on top of the saw so I tried it. It worked better than I thought. Belt tension is pretty easy, just lower the arbor. The BT3100 that this is sitting on works with a speed controller. I was able to slow the motor down in order to sand the drum. The glue was getting to hot on the drum and gumming up the sandpaper. Slowing down the rev's help a bunch.

This is the part that adjusts the tracking for the conveyor. There is one on each side and they made make one side longer than the other.

Getting there. Starting to true up the drum.

The drum was turning too fast and heating up the glue. Needed to slow down the motor. It's already geared down .4 from spindle speed via the pulleys but that wasn't enough.

The black handle is about $23 alone. I could have turn something really cool, made a crank, figured out how to keep it from slipping. Yeah right....

Here's the small rod that locks the drum to the shaft. Get out the V jig to center the hole in the shaft on your drillpress. I thought this would be a pain in the ass to do but it wasn't that bad..

Rollers are fun. PVC pipe with MDF wheels to match the ID of the pipe. Pretty strong setup. Epoxy will hold them in place.

More doughnuts. Little dinky doughnuts this time. These are 1.590" to fit inside the 1.5" schedule40 PVC pipe. Thats what size the actual pipe was.

Here is a mock-up of what I have so far. I still need to finish up the conveyor rollers and sides and do some sanding so things slide nicely together. The drum discs are just test fitted also but I am happy with what I have so far, it's coming together better than I hoped.

When making the sides, it's best to clamp the two sides together and then drill them. That way everything is the same, and you get done in almost half the time. There are 6 pieces there sandwhiched together. On the edges of the MDF is spakle to fill in the pores. That'll make it look a little nicer once it gets painted.

Drilling holes for the drum discs. ShopNotes suggested a fly-cutter, a drill centering jig and then making the center hole bigger after you cut the circle. That seems a little retarded so I just made a circle cutting jig that had the right size shaft in the first place so I didn't have to figure out how to keep everything centered.
